Macintosh, System 7 and greater. Stuffit Expander 5.x. (OS 9 requires version 5.1.4.)
License:
Emailware freeware. Send me an email if you use them.
Installation:
Open System folder.
Find the System suitcase.
Open the System suitcase.
Drag and drop each sound that you want to install into the suitcase.
The sound file will eventually disappear from its original location.
It will be then located in the System suitcase.
You can drag unwanted sounds to the Trash.
* To unstuff the archive, you may need to drag the archive onto Stuffit Expander. *
Notes:
Please feel free to distribute these sounds to anyone as long as:
You don't sell them.
You use my original unmodified Stuffit 5 archive.
Feel free to include these sounds on free CD-ROMS and other media.
Do not use these sounds in commercial, demo, or shareware programs or include them on media for sale.
You or any business may not profit from these sounds.
They are strictly freeware.
Do not distribute the sounds without this document.
Please email me if you have any questions.
The archive contains 200 sounds in version 1.0 and 225 sounds in version 1.1.1.
Further Notes:
I hope you enjoy them!
Longer sounds are usually not good choices for System beeps.
They do work for email notification and for other purposes.
I've labeled my favorites with the blue label.
If you drop a sound into the Startup Items folder, you can hear that sound at Startup.
The same is true for the Shutdown Items folder.
A Big Bug in the Mac OS:
If you try to open the System suitcase on a Mac that is using the Appearance extension 1.0.2, you will be unable.
The computer will inform you that the System suitcase is damaged and cannot be opened. This is not true.
The only way to fix this problem is to install an updated version of the Appearance extension.

The archive now has 225 sounds. (I also deleted 5 sounds that were part of the 50 sounds added in version 1.1.)
(The sounds deleted were chosen for deletion because I felt the archive was too large and these particular sounds were the least useful sounds in the archive.) Modified Read This.
1.1: (Not Released.) November 6, 1999. Added 50 new sounds. Used Macromedia SoundEdit 16 to improve many sounds. There should now be no "pop" or "click" at the end of any sounds. Levels should no longer differ dramatically between sounds. (A few of the new sounds were created first in KinkyBeep and were then heavily modified in SoundEdit 16.) There are now 250 sounds. Change label color for favorites. Modified Read This.
1.0: Initial Release: September 14, 1999. All sounds were created by me with an excellent freeware program called KinkyBeep. Many thanks go to the author: Ken-ichiro Hidaka. Thanks also go to the people who wrote me emails. There are 200 sounds.
*I am not responsible for any damages these sounds or the Stuffit archive included here might cause. Use these files at your own risk.
